Pizza is definitely something that I absolutely love to have. In my home pizza Fridays are a real thing. What better way to close out the work week than with a pizza pie? Nothing in my opinion.
I used to purchase pizza dough from the bakery at the grocery store. However, once I learned how magical the KitchenAid stand mixer with the hook attachment is and how much easier it makes the process of making pizza dough myself, I've been making my own ever since.
I've also been making my favorite pizzas at home as well and that includes the delicious supreme pizza.
Let's get started!
What Does Supreme Pizza Mean?
I am not sure exactly what the correct term means except for the fact that it has many different toppings on it. In the United States Pizza Hut's supreme pizza is made with classic marinara sauce, pepperoni, seasoned pork, beef, fresh mushrooms, fresh green bell peppers, and fresh red onions.
A supreme pizza is available at any pizza chain and most pizzerias with many variations of toppings. Some pizza places even use Canadian bacon and black olives.
Is Homemade Pizza Dough Required For This Recipe?
Fresh dough is required for this recipe. If you prefer to skip the process of making your own pizza dough, then feel free to use a store-bought pizza dough that can be found in the bakery or refrigerated food section of most grocery stores.
You can also use the pizza dough that comes in a tube that can be found in the section with the canned biscuits of the supermarket. If you have a stand mixer with a hook attachment, the process is extremely easy. The mixer does all the work and there is no need to knead the dough by hand.
What Ingredients Are Needed To Make Homemade Supreme Pizza?
There really isn't a right or wrong way to enjoy any type of pizza. You can certainly feel free to make your own supreme pizza with all of your favorite toppings, but I'll share the most common supreme pizza toppings and you can choose to use them all or as many as you prefer.
- Homemade Pizza Crust - To make your supreme pizza completely homemade, you can easily make your own pizza dough. If you prefer to keep this pizza recipe simple, then you can use store-bought pizza dough. The pizza dough that is usually found in the bakery section or refrigerated section of the grocery store works best.
- Sauce - If you enjoy making homemade sauce go right ahead or use whatever brand of sauce that you like. For busy weeknights, I find that store-bought works just as well and requires minimal prep.
- Mozzarella Cheese - A common ingredient topping on pizza. A mildly flavored cheese that won't overpower the other pizza toppings. Melts well and creates the classic melty cheese pull with little effort. Must be shredded and added to the pizza, use as much as you prefer. Low-moisture mozzarella does not have a high water content and is a great option. Monterey jack cheese is a good cheese substitution for pizza.
- Red Onion - Can be chopped or thinly sliced before adding to the pizza. Adds a slightly sweet, spicy, and peppery flavor. It's perfectly fine to add raw onions to the pizza. It will cook in the oven along with the rest of the pizza.
- Green Bell Pepper - Thinly sliced and added to the pizza to give it a slightly bitter flavor with a crisp sweetness. Be sure to use green peppers and not yellow peppers or red peppers.
- Mushrooms - Tender and meaty a nice addition to the supreme pizza toppings. Try to go with baby bella mushrooms or button mushrooms. Slice them thinly before adding to the pizza.
- Mild Italian Sausage - A meaty, savory, and slightly spicy pork sausage that is cooked before adding to the pizza. For this particular pizza recipe, make sure that you grab mild or hot ground Italian sausage and not sweet Italian sausage. Cook until it releases most of the fat and has a slightly crispy texture.
- Pepperoni - Regular-size traditional pepperoni slices, any brand that you prefer.
- Ground Beef - Cooked lean ground beef adds an additional meat topping to the pizza, is filling, and gives the pizza a great texture.
See the recipe card below for exact ingredient quantities and instructions.
How To Make The Best Supreme Pizza
Begin the recipe by making the recipe for Easy Homemade Pizza Crust. Allow the crust/dough time to rise. When it doubles in size, that's when it's ready to use. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
At this point, press the air out of the dough to flatten it out a bit.

Remove the pizza dough from the bowl and press it into a baking sheet, pizza pan, or cast iron skillet. For a thicker crust, use the entire amount of pizza dough and adjust the pan size as needed. For a thinner crust, cut the pizza dough in half to make two pizzas or save half in a plastic bag in the refrigerator to use later and only make one pizza.
Place the pizza dough into the preheated oven to pre-bake for about 4 to 5 minutes. Carefully remove the pizza crust from the oven and evenly spread the pizza sauce on top of the crust. Evely top with half of the shredded mozzarella cheese.
Next evenly spread out the pepperoni, cooked ground Italian sausage, cooked ground beef, sliced onion, sliced bell pepper, and sliced mushrooms. Finish by topping with the other half of the shredded mozzarella cheese.
Place the supreme pizza back into the oven and bake for about 10 to 12 additional minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the crust is golden brown. Carefully remove the pizza from the oven and slice using a pizza wheel. Serve warm and enjoy!
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes and no. The ground beef and ground Italian sausage needs to be cooked before adding it to the pizza. The red onion, green pepper, mushrooms, and pepperoni do not need to be cooked before adding to the pizza.
A deluxe supreme pizza is similar to a supreme pizza except the deluxe supreme pizza may have a few additional toppings such as green or black olives and sweet banana pepper or hot jalapeno peppers. The deluxe supreme pizza may also include pineapple at some places.
Supreme pizza does not usually have anchovies as a topping, but if you would like to have some on your pizza then go ahead and add them. It's your pizza!
Storage
Storage. If you have any leftover pizza, then store it in the refrigerator in an airtight container or plastic storage bag for up to 3 days.
Reheating. When ready to serve again, reheat by placing in the oven at 300 degrees F. until warm. If you are in a hurry then you may also reheat the pizza in the microwave or in the air fryer.
Freezing. The baked and unbaked supreme pizza can be stored in the freezer for up to 30 days. Wrap it in a double layer of plastic wrap and store it in a freezer bag or freezer-safe container. When ready to reheat, no need to allow it time to thaw, just bake in the oven if uncooked and reheat if cooked.
