Let's get started!

Mango Pineapple Salsa Recipe Ingredients

ingredients needed to make salsa in separate bowls
  1. Mango - The summer months are peak season for mangos, especially in Florida. You can find them popping up on trees or easily locate them at farmer's markets and grocery stores. Try to select a mango that is tender but slightly firm to the touch, a slightly ripe fruit. Remove the skin and the seed, we won't need any of that and cut into small bite-size pieces.
  2. Pineapple - Adds the sweet element to this fruit salsa recipe. Dice the pineapple into small pieces similar in size to the mango. If you prefer to use the pre-cut fruit found in containers in the produce section of the grocery store, then you may use those as well and save yourself a little time. I do not recommend using canned pineapple for this particular recipe.
  3. Red Onion - Gives the salsa a bright and slightly spicy flavor. Thinly slice and dice the onion into small pieces. May use shallot or white onion instead.
  4. Jalapeño Pepper - Provides the salsa with a spicy flavor. For less heat remove the seed and ribs, then chop finely.
  5. Tomato - Commonly found in traditional salsa for a sweet and tangy bite. Try to remove as many seeds as you can.
  6. Fresh Cilantro - Tangy, citrus-like flavor that pairs well with the other ingredients in the fresh fruit salsa and adds some freshness to the dish.
  7. Lime Juice - Brings out the fresh flavors and gives the salsa a nice balance of acid. May substitute fresh lemon juice or orange juice in the same unit of measure if you prefer.
  8. Salt & Ground Black Pepper - Adds spice and prevents the salsa from tasting flat. Use more or less according to your preference.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient quantities and instructions.

How to Make Pineapple Mango Salsa

This recipe is easy to make but requires a bit of prep work to prepare the fresh produce ingredients.

Begin by cleaning and chopping or dicing everything into small pieces using a sharp knife. To minimize the spicy flavor of the jalapeno pepper, remove the seeds and ribs before dicing. You may also try to remove as many seeds as you can from the tomatoes if you prefer.

Using a large mixing bowl, add the chopped/diced sweet mangos, pineapple, red onion, jalapeno pepper, tomato, and cilantro. Using a wooden spoon or rubber spatula, gently stir to combine. Add the fresh lime juice, sea salt, ground black pepper, and stir to combine. Stir enough to mix all of the chopped ingredients and distribute them into an even balance.

If you prefer to serve it chilled, then cover the large bowl tightly with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Otherwise, serve immediately with your favorite tortilla chips, on top of a rice bowl with some grilled chicken breast, a salad, or with some shrimp tacos. Enjoy!

Salsa Recipe Variations

This salsa recipe is pretty versatile and is great if made exactly as the instructions suggest, but it is very forgiving and easy to make changes to your desired taste.

  • Add More Jalapeno - If you prefer a more spicy salsa.
  • Toppings - Before serving try topping with some chopped-up green onions.
  • Red Pepper - Stir in a little diced red bell pepper to add a more sweet and spicy flavor.
  • Swap the Herbs - Not a fan of cilantro? Use fresh parsley or mint instead.
  • More Crisp Crunch - Add some diced cucumber to the mix.
  • Drizzle of Honey - For some more sweetness, add a generous drizzle of honey to the fruit before stirring.

Tips to Make the Best Pineapple Mango Salsa

  • Try to chop all of the fruit into similar size pieces.
  • Use fresh ripe mango and pineapple for peak sweetness and the best flavor. This will make for a more flavorful, juicier, and vibrant color salsa.
  • Try to make the salsa ahead of time so that it can chill a bit in the refrigerator before serving.
  • Be sure to give the salsa a good stir before serving for best results.

Storage Tips

Storage. If you have any leftover mango salsa, then store it in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 2-3 days. Keep in mind that after a day or two the fruit in the tropical salsa will begin to break down and create more liquid and soften it to ripeness. Try to enjoy the fresh salsa shortly after making it.

Freezing. I also do not recommend freezing this salsa or making it too far in advance.
