Spring and summer are the perfect time to enjoy all of the cold desserts that you possibly can. I'm talking about ice cream, popsicles, no-bake cheesecake, and of course a good trifle.
Trifles are a classic dessert that is usually made up of three layers of cake, fruit, and cream. It's one of those desserts that looks fancy and elegant, but it actually comes together in minutes with minimal ingredients that can be easily located in any grocery store. It can also be made using anything that you prefer, but today we're keeping it simple with a cream cheese based cream, pound cake, and of course canned California Cling Peaches.

What's a Trifle?
A trifle also known as a punch bowl cake is a cold dessert made up of layers of cake, fruit, and cream (also custard or jelly). It originated in England during the 18th century but has been made popular here in the states. It is perfect to serve a crowd and in the south can be found at after church and family gatherings in many variations.

Ingredient Notes
- California Cling Peaches - Be sure to use canned California Cling Peaches. They're harvested, packed and shipped at their peak ripeness for a unique naturally sweet flavor. Consider keeping them stocked in your pantry all year because they have a long shelf life and are available at your local grocery store in cans, jars, and single-serve cups.
- Butter Pound Cake - Keep things simple by using a premade pound cake found at your local grocery store in the frozen food section. If you prefer to make your own then you can do that as well.
- Cream Cheese - Use regular full fat cream cheese to make the cream mixture creamy and thick. If you prefer to use low fat, then you may do that as well. This recipe has not been made with a dairy-free alternative.
- Granulated Sugar - Regular cane sugar or granulated sugar for this recipe to add a bit of sweetness to this cling peach trifle.
- Vanilla Extract - Use pure vanilla extract for added flavor.
Instructions
Begin the peaches and cream trifle recipe by opening the cans of sliced California Cling Peaches and allowing them to drain completely of the liquid. To do this, simply use a fine-mesh strainer over a medium-size bowl. Set aside.
Allow the butter pound cake to thaw completely if using frozen and cut into small cubed pieces and set aside.
Next, use a stand mixer with the paddle attachment on medium-high speed. Add the cream cheese and mix until creamy and smooth. Be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl during the process as needed. Slowly add the heavy cream and continue mixing until soft peaks form. Add the granulated sugar and vanilla extract and mix just until smooth. Remove and refrigerate until ready to assemble the peach trifle.
Begin assembling the peach trifle in a glass trifle bowl. Start with half of the cut-up cake, followed by topping with an even layer of cream using a spoon. Then add an even layer of cling peaches.
Repeat the layers with the other half of the cake, cream, and cling peaches.
Finish the top with a layer of cream. Serve immediately or place into the refrigerator until ready to serve and enjoy!
Storage
This trifle can sit out at room temperature for up to 2 hours, any more than that, place in the refrigerator until ready to serve again. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 days. It can be made a day ahead and stored in the refrigerator overnight. It should not be frozen as it will not keep well.

Ingredients
- 3 cans (15 ounces) sliced California Cling Peaches, drained
- 16 ounces butter pound cake
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 ¾ cups heavy whipping cream
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Begin the peaches and cream trifle recipe by opening 3 cans of sliced California Cling Peaches and allowing them to drain completely of the liquid. To do this, simply use a fine-mesh strainer over a medium-size bowl. Set aside.
- Allow the 16 ounces of butter pound cake to thaw completely if using frozen and cut into small cubed pieces and set aside.
- Next, use a stand mixer with the paddle attachment on medium-high speed. Add the 8 ounces of cream cheese and mix until creamy and smooth. Be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl during the process as needed.
- Slowly add the 1 ¾ cups heavy cream and continue mixing until soft peaks form. Add the ¼ cup granulated sugar and ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract and mix just until smooth. Remove and refrigerate until ready to assemble the peach trifle.
- Begin assembling the peach trifle in a glass trifle bowl. Start with half of the cut-up cake, followed by topping with an even layer of ⅓ of the prepared cream using a spoon. Then add an even layer of half of the cling peaches.
- Repeat the layers with the other half of the cake, ⅓ of the cream, and the other half of the cling peaches. Finish the top with a layer of the cream that is left.
- Serve immediately or place into the refrigerator until ready to serve and enjoy!
