These fast and easy biscuits are also known as mayonnaise biscuits because they are made with mayo, milk, self-rising flour, and sugar. A fluffy drop biscuit recipe that is ready in minutes.

I love a good biscuit!
I actually go it honest because I'm a girl that was raised in the south and growing up, biscuits were definitely a staple on the breakfast table. My mom would usually make homemade biscuits in a large batch and store some of the uncooked ones in the freezer and any cooked leftovers in the refrigerator. It would also not be surprising for her to use a few of those leftover biscuits to fill up the bread needed for cornbread dressing.
Now making homemade biscuits is messy and not easy for everyone to master. I should know because it has taken me a while and I still have my moments when biscuits fail to rise the way they should. It is a lot. It takes much practice. If you are not up for the daunting task or simply want an easy version that is when drop biscuits can make this easier.
What is a drop biscuit?
A drop biscuit is a biscuit that is made from scratch without rolling the dough out with a rolling pin and cutting the biscuits out with a cutter. The dough is softer and allows it to be dropped or pinched off by hand and placed in the baking pan to bake. They are also known as spoon biscuits because they can be dropped on the pan using a spoon. They will not have the classic biscuit shape, fluffiness, or rise, but they are quick and easy to make.
This recipe is super fast and requires only four simple ingredients.
What ingredients this quick biscuit recipe?

What happens if I use all-purpose flour instead of self rising flour?
For this particular recipe, you do not want to substitute the self rising flour for all-purpose flour or plain flour. The recipe will not work if you choose to do so. It is easy to make your own self rising flour using all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. For the exact measurements be sure to check out my recipe for self-rising flour.
How are biscuits made with mayonnaise?
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. In a medium-size mixing bowl, stir together the granulated sugar and self-rising flour. If you do not have any self-rising flour on hand, then it is simple to make using all-purpose flour and a few additional ingredients. Simply follow this Self-Rising Flour Recipe.

Add in the milk and give it a little stir to combine with the self-rising flour mixture.

Stir in the mayonnaise and the mixture will begin to come together to form a ball of dough. Once this happens, stop mixing and prepare the biscuits for baking.

Then drop 6 tablespoonfuls of biscuit dough onto a greased baking sheet, pan, or cast-iron skillet.

Bake at 425 degrees F. for 15 to 20 minutes or until the biscuits have lightly browned.
Remove from the oven and all them to cool for 1 to 2 minutes before serving warm.

Do these biscuits taste like mayonnaise?
No, they do not.
Not at all.

Tips to make the best biscuits with mayo:
- Do not substitute the self-rising flour for all-purpose flour.
- Use whole milk only for this recipe. This recipe needs the additional fat that is found in whole milk. Substituting any other milk may have a different outcome.
- Do not over mix the dough. Once it begins to come together and sticks onto itself, you want to stop mixing or your biscuits will be tough.
- Pay close attention to these biscuits while they are baking and as soon as they become light brown, remove them from the oven. I set the cook timer for 10 minutes in the beginning and check the biscuits once the time is up. If additional time is needed after this point then I re-set the timer for 5 minutes at a time, checking each time the timer goes off.
- Keep in mind these are easy drop biscuits and they will be dense and have will have the rise that classic biscuits have. This is a nice quick option and a good alternative to canned biscuits.
