Donโ€™t you just hate it when you are knee-deep, or wrist deep into a recipe only to suddenly realize that the recipe calls for self-rising flour and the only flour that you have on hand is all-purpose flour?

Well never fear, I have a recipe that will turn that plain flour/all-purpose flour into self-rising flour and also save you a trip to the grocery store mid-recipe.

What is self rising flour?ย

Self rising flour is flour with the baking powder and salt already added to it. It is also softer and has a lower protein content than all-purpose flour.ย

What ingredients do I need to make this self-rising flour recipe?

  1. All-purpose flour
  2. Baking powder
  3. Salt

How to make self rising flour:ย

self-rising flour in a flour sifter

Making self rising flour is an easy process that requires 3 simple ingredients and the use of a flour sifter or any fine mesh strainer.ย

Add the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt into the sifter or strainer and shake until everything goes through.ย

Dump out any large chunks and if you notice a substantial amount left behind in the sifter. Add more of the ingredient to the strainer, keeping up with the amount.ย

It is best to sift one ingredient at a time beginning with the flour. Gently stir together to combine and this is how to turn all purpose flour into self rising flour. Use in any required recipe and double or triple the recipe as needed.ย
