Begin the recipe by preheating the oven to 350 degrees F. Grab a medium-sized baking sheet and line it with parchment paper or lightly spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
Slice each of the 6 rolls in half and place the bottom half of the roll on the prepared baking sheet or dish. Set aside.
In a small bowl, stir together the ¼ cup mayonnaise, 3 tablespoons grated onion, 1 tablespoon poppy seeds, 1 tablespoon spicy mustard, 1 tablespoon horseradish, and ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce. At this point, you may taste the sauce and adjust the ingredients to your preference.
Generously spread the sauce on top of the bottom half of the buns in the baking dish. Evenly top with 1 pound of thinly sliced roast beef and 1 pound of Swiss cheese slices. Top with the other half of the bun.
Top the baking dish with some aluminium foil and place into the oven to bake for 15 to 20 minutes. The cheese should be melted and the buns slightly crisp.
Carefully remove the sandwiches from the oven and serve warm. Enjoy!
If you have any leftover sandwiches, wrap each individual sandwich in some aluminum foil and store them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Notes
Try preparing the baking dish by spreading it with butter before adding the bottom of the buns.
These roast beef sandwiches can be made the day before and placed in the refrigerator overnight. When ready to bake allow them time to come to room temperature a bit before baking.
Try not to overbake the sandwiches. Bake them just enough for them to be heated thoroughly, the cheese melted, and the bun slightly crisp.
You may use any bread roll that you prefer. Try pretzel buns, Hawaiian buns, or onion with poppy seeds.
Double the sauce and add to the bottom and top of the sandwich for a more saucy sandwich.
