Notes
Tips to make the best biscuits with mayo:
Do not substitute the self-rising flour for all-purpose flour.
Use whole milk only for this recipe. This recipe needs the additional fat that is found in whole milk. Substituting any other milk may have a different outcome.
Do not over mix the dough. Once it begins to come together and sticks onto itself, you want to stop mixing or your biscuits will be tough.
Pay close attention to these biscuits while they are baking and as soon as they become light brown, remove them from the oven. I set the cook timer for 10 minutes in the beginning and check the biscuits once the time is up. If additional time is needed after this point then I re-set the timer for 5 minutes at a time, checking each time the timer goes off.
Keep in mind these are easy drop biscuits and they will be dense and have will have the rise that classic biscuits have. This is a nice quick option and a good alternative to canned biscuits.
If you do not have any self-rising flour on hand, then it is simple to make using all-purpose flour and a few additional ingredients. Simply follow this Self-Rising Flour Recipe.
