Ingredients

  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  • In a large glass or metal mixing bowl, add in the yeast package, warm water, sugar, salt, and stir until everything has dissolved.
  • Add in the all-purpose flour and stir until everything is well blended. Do not knead the bread just cover it with a tea towel and allow it to rise in a draft-free area for about 1 hour or until the dough has doubled in size.
  • Remove the dough from the bowl and divide into 2 even rounds and place on a baking sheet sprinkled with cornmeal to prevent sticking.
  • Cover the dough and allow it to rise for 1 hour or until it had doubled in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Brush the tops of the bread with some melted butter and place into the oven and allow to bake at 425 degrees F. for 10 minutes to brown the outside and then adjust the oven to 375 degrees F. and allow it to bake for an additional 15 minutes. Serve warm.
