Welcome to the Year in Review 2018 where we will recap what happened in the year and what you can look forward to in 2019.
Happy New Year!
Another year has ended and I would like to take this time to reflect on the things that Simply LaKita was able to accomplish as a business. There isn’t really much talk about blogging or business since I know that you mainly come here for the food and recipes, but surprisingly I want to be more intentional about sharing the business side of my journey with you.
Every single one of you has played an integral part in the growth of Simply LaKita and helping me turn my passion from a hobby to a business, so I’m happy to include you in on the business update.
What Happened in 2018?
I invested more money into my business in 2018 than any year before but also earned more than I ever have. Perhaps more importantly, I worked with fewer brands and focused on building relationships and forming longer partnerships. This not only provided stability in my income but also allowed me to be more selective and share with you brands that I absolutely love. I was able to work with 10 brands throughout the year that equalled to about once a month and wasn’t overwhelming.
I decided to quit trying to keep up with what every other professional blogger is doing and focus on creating my own path and sharing the content that you want to see. This has been so freeing and I love the response that I have received on being real and sharing recipes that aren’t hard or what everyone else is doing.
Surprisingly, I was mentioned on the Uncut Slice and Torte podcast as an Instacrush and when they said that my food was comfort food with a twist, I knew I was on the right track and my message is clear. I have been trying to accomplish this for years and wasn’t sure if I was on the right track so it was nice to receive confirmation.
Stepping out of my comfort zone to share 2 recipes on my local news was a huge milestone for me. It was also fun and I would love to do it again.
The best investment that I made for my business was upgrading my camera from the Canon T3i to the full frame Canon 6D. This one change made a huge difference in my photos and sparked my passion for creating more content. I also purchased the 50mm 1.8 lens that has become my favorite. It is so dreamy and reasonably priced.
What’s Coming Up in 2019?
In the new year, I intend to be more consistent with sharing 2 blog post a week and more on social media. Using scheduling apps and taking the time to plan out content in advance will allow me to achieve this and enjoy more free time. Don’t get me wrong, I do love social media but I can only take it in doses before it gets overwhelming.
In keeping with the partnership theme of last year, I will focus on forming longer partnerships with brands and building relationships. My goal is to have 4 pieces of sponsored content a quarter.
This year I will stretch myself and finally release the blogging course and meal planning course that I’ve been working on. I recently shared a poll on Instagram and was overwhelmed by the number of my followers that are interested in a course to help build a blog. With so many courses out there already on this, I want to make sure my course prompts actions, is impactful, and shares everything that I know. I will share more with you on this in the coming months.
You asked for more video and I will be sharing more video. I have made plans to hire someone to help me with editing and my goal is to share at least one video a week beginning in February.
