National Grilled Cheese Day

It is National Grilled Cheese Day! A great way to celebrate is with a sandwich with ham, cheese, and sliced apple. So many flavors packed in one sandwich.

It does not matter if you are an adult or a child, nothing compares to the comfort food that is a grilled cheese. The crispy crunchy butter flavored golden bread with hot lava melting cheese inside is the ultimate treat for any time of the day…breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

This is a must in my household because it is so versatile and fast when you need a meal in a hurry. Our favorite way to serve a grilled cheese is with a side of none other than tomato soup. Try dipping a grilled cheese into a cup of hot steamy tomato soup and see if you don’t feel better for just a brief moment.

You can do so many things with a grilled cheese sandwich such as including different types of cheese, meat, or fruits and veggies. I previously shared with you on the blog a grilled cheese sandwich made using ham, cheddar cheese, pepper jack cheese, and some thinly sliced apple…just in case you missed it, I will link it here.

So today in the spirit of National Grilled Cheese Day it seems only fair that I share a classic grilled cheese sandwich with you.

You will need 2 slices of any type of bread, butter (I am using Smart Balance Original), any kind of cheese, sliced (I am using Go Veggie Cheddar), and any other food item that you would like (seriously just because I am making a classic grilled cheese does not mean you have to).

Now when is comes to butter – I like to assemble my grilled cheese and then spread butter on one side of the sandwich and place that butter side into a pre-heated skillet. Then while that side is cooking I spread butter on the top and then flip the sandwich over on that side and continue cooking until both sides are golden brown to my liking.

Some people prefer to melt the butter in the pan and then add the sandwich. My advice is to do whatever works for you…its your kitchen your rules.

Once your grilled cheese is complete, then remove it from the pan and enjoy while it is still warm.

I like dunking sandwiches into my soup too. I haven’t had a grilled cheese sandwich in a long time. I try not to eat dairy and I haven’t tried any of the non-dairy cheeses.

That is my favorite part too!! I totally understand you on the dairy as I have recently tried to cut it out of my diet, but this cheese wasn’t too bad and it melted very well.

Yum! Sounds great! And I’ve had that cheese before as well and you are right, it does melt well. Not all non-dairy cheese do!

It was really good! I am having to cut all dairy out of my diet and it was suggested for me to give this cheese a try and it was great…so glad I don’t have to give up my grilled cheese sandwiches 🙂
