How to Help After Hurricane Harvey – A list of resources to help you find a way to assist the victims of Hurricane Harvey. No donation is too small.
Here we are another day, another Friday, and I am supposed to share with you a recipe.
However with the devastation that happened this week in Houston…a recipe just doesn’t really seem important when there are people a few states away from me trying to figure out how to supply their basic daily needs such as toothpaste, clothing, and food.
The rain of Hurricane Harvey came in so quickly, that people lost their homes and everything that they owned in this world. People had to be rescued from danger by helicopters, packed into the fishing boats of complete strangers that were kind enough to take it upon themselves to help people that were in need.
I listened to a news report about a mother being found in an area claimed by the flooding; still cradling her child long after the effects of Harvey took hold of their lives. I could not help by wonder what terror this mother must have been feeling trying to find shelter from the storm for herself and her child. It is this story, several others, as well as the many others that are sure to come once the water subsides that I just could not bring myself to share a recipe with you on this day.
People need help. They need our help. They will need our help in the weeks to come. They will need our help long before insurance companies figure out what constitutes as flood damage and what is water damage and if they are covered or not. People need shelter and money to rebuild, but they also need diapers, baby wipes, feminine hygiene products, and pet food. They need thousands of dollars, but they will also need a few dollars. I challenge each one of you to not look away from this and assume that someone else will take care of it. We are all Houston. We can all give something.
