Fried Brown Rice with Vinaigrette is a quick and easy dinner option that can be paired with your favorite protein and vegetable combination. Simple, flavorful, delicious!

While I was in college there was a restaurant that I loved to go to due to the fact that they specialized in stir-fry! This place was so amazing and I remember the menu was divided up into options for the base, veggies, protein, sauce, toppings, and you could choose any combination that you wanted. There was so much to choose from that you could literally have a different combination each time that you went there.

This place is also what made me begin to have an appreciation for brown rice. My favorite combination would usually be brown rice, chicken, mushrooms, broccoli, green peppers, spicy ginger sauce, with a topping of feta cheese. The serving was always affordable and enough to last for at least two meals.

I still find myself creating this dish at home when I need something filling and in a hurry. This meal certainly can be pulled together in minutes and enjoyed any time of day. I will also let you in on a little secret, are you ready? It is a great way to use up any leftover rice from Chinese takeout that you may have in your fridge because of day-old rice fries up so much better than freshly cooked rice.

What ingredients are needed to make this recipe for brown fried rice?

    1. Cooked brown rice
    2. Olive oil
    3. Onion
    4. Garlic
    5. Ginger
    6. Green onion
    7. Chili powder
    8. Soy sauce
    9. Rice vinegar
    10. Sesame oil

How to make easy fried brown rice:

Begin the recipe by whisking together in a small bowl some soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. This is the vinaigrette that will flavor the brown rice. Set the mixture aside and begin cooking the rice.

In a large skillet over medium-high heat add in the olive oil. Once the oil has heated, add the thinly sliced onion and cook stirring often until the onion is soft and translucent about 3 minutes. Next, add in the garlic and ginger. Cook until fragrant about 2 minutes. Add in the rice and cook until the rice has had a chance to warm up. Make sure to use cooked and cooled rice. Again leftover rice and day-old rice is perfectly fine for this recipe.

Sprinkle in the chili powder and stir to distribute evenly among the rice. Continue cooking the rice moving around in the pan often with a spatula, about 5 minutes. You will know the brown rice is ready once it has firmed up a bit and has lightly browned.

Carefully remove from the heat and add the vinaigrette sauce. Toss to fully coat the rice in the mixture.

I absolutely love fried rice. Cassidy makes it every now and then and it's divine. I have never tried the fried egg! We have used scrambled eggs, though. Both sound delicious.
