Fresh, and Frozen, and Canned…Oh My!

So I was having a conversation with a friend of mine last night that said that you should only use fresh fruits and vegetables and never canned and never frozen. This is in terms of making a smoothie and also cooking.

So what do you lovelies think about that??

Well for me personally I know that canned is not always the best choice because it is usually loaded with preservatives and lots of sodium, but in my opinion if that is the only way that you can get your fruits and/or veggies in…then canned is certainly better than nothing. 

I have no problem with frozen fruits and veggies and I actually use them many times while cooking and in my smoothies. I like frozen fruits and vegetables because they last longer and are more readily available. I have no problem with frozen fruits and veggies so I certainly disagree with my friend on this. I try to buy frozen organic when I can, but if I cannot it is not that big a deal to me. 

Fresh is certainly best…organic is better…and local organic is the absolute best because it is the most fresh and you are able to get it shortly after it is picked which means that you are getting the peak amount of nutrients, less processing, and what could be better than farm to table. 

So bottom line…eat more fruits and vegetables…regardless of if they are fresh, frozen, or canned.

    I barely ever eat canned fruits or veggies, but I eat frozen regularly! I have a hard time keeping a lot of fresh produce in the house unless I am on a cooking kick. Sometimes I just don’t have the energy and the frozen is the easiest way to get veggies into our meals. And honestly I like frozen fruit in smoothies more than I like fresh fruit. I think it’s because it makes it more like milkshake.

      That is exactly the same way that I feel! I usually end up throwing away fresh fruits and veggies because they will get pushed to the back of my fridge and forgotten, so frozen works best for me. I love frozen in my smoothies as well because it can also double as my ice 😉
