    Why California Cling Peaches?

California Cling Peaches are harvested, packed and shipped at their peak ripeness to ensure a one of a kind naturally sweet flavor. They're great to keep in your pantry because they have a long shelf life and are available in cans, jars, and single-serve cups.

They can also be blended to make a puree that can be stored in the freezer for up to three months. This puree can be used as an ingredient substitution for the following:

    • One Egg
    • A single cup of Butter
    • Sugar or Sweetener substitution
    • Oil or Healthy Fat portion of the recipe.

    Ingredient Notes

ingredients needed to make peach crisp in separate containers on marble surface
    1. California Cling Peaches - For this crisp recipe, you will need three 15 ounce cans of sliced cling peaches. Locate them at your local grocery store and be sure to check the label to make sure it is USA/California Grown.
    2. Cornstarch - This ingredient helps to thicken the cling peach part of the crisp so that it is not a runny mess. You can also use arrowroot powder in the same unit of measure if you prefer.
    3. Vanilla extract - Use pure vanilla extract and not imitation vanilla for better flavor.
    4. Lemon juice - Adds a small bit of acid and brings out the flavor of the cling peaches.
    5. Sugar - Use granulated sugar or cane sugar.
    6. All-purpose flour - This will help to thicken the crisp mixture.
    7. Old fashioned oats - Regular, plain rolled oats work best for any good fruit crisp dessert recipe.
    8. Brown sugar - Helps to sweeten the crisp mixture.
    9. Ground cinnamon - Adds great spice flavor to the crisp.
    10. Salt - Balances the flavors of the dessert. I prefer to use kosher salt.
    11. Butter - Provides fat and oil to the recipe. Use butter that has time to soften a bit before incorporation into the mixture.

    Instructions

Begin the recipe by preheating the oven to 400 degrees F. and lightly spraying an 8x8 inch square baking dish or a 10-inch cast-iron skillet with cooking spray or butter. Set aside.

Using a large mixing bowl, stir together the sliced California cling peaches, cornstarch, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and sugar until combined. Add the mixture into the prepared dish or skillet.

In a separate bowl, prepare the crisp topping by stirring together the all-purpose flour, oats, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt.

Next work the butter into the topping mixture using your hands until it resembles a coarse meal and all of the butter is distributed throughout the crisp mixture. Pour the mixture evenly over the top of the cling peach mixture in the dish or skillet making sure the topping is covering all of the cling peaches.

Place into the oven and bake for about 30 minutes until the crisp layer is golden brown. Allow the crisp to cool in the pan for about 5 to 10 minutes prior to serving. Serve warm topped with your favorite ice cream, the sauce with thicken as it cools. Enjoy!

    Tips

    • Old-fashioned oats, also known as rolled oats, work best for the crisp topping. Old-fashioned oats will become crispy as they bake but will still remain slightly chewy which is exactly what you want in any crisp recipe.
    • If you aren't a fan of peaches, try making an Easy Berry Crisp instead.
    • You may add more sugar if you need more sweetness. Adjust according to your preference.
    • Serve the cling peach crisp warm on its own or top with ice cream or some whipped topping. It can also be served cold as well.

    Storage

Store any leftover crisp in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave for 30 seconds before serving. If you prefer to reheat in the oven, place in an oven-safe container and reheat at 350 degrees F. for about 10 to 15 minutes.
